On October 7th 2023, Shama Women’s Centre held a Ladies Fashion Show and raised £1000 for the centre.

The event proved to be immensely successful, with women actively participating, networking, and enjoying themselves. The evening not only facilitated new connections among women but, more importantly, it provided valuable information about the importance of regular checks and screenings for breast cancer as early intervention can be instrumental in saving lives.

The event also served as an opportunity for the Shama Women’s Centre to enhance its relationships with University Hospitals Leicester, South Asian Health Action, and Spinney Hill Support Centre. Additionally, it provided a platform for promoting Shama’s CORE20PLUS5 initiative.

Collaborating the event with the Colours Fashion Show guaranteed the provision of professional entertainment for the guests.

A special thank you to our guest speaker Mala and UHL for providing the venue. Thank you to all our stall holders including UHL staff promoting regular checks and screenings, Spinney Hill Support Centre, South Asian Health Action, Zara Henna and As Baked as a Cake.

Thank you to our fundraising coordinator for organising the event as well as Shama Women’s Centres staff and volunteers.

Testimonials

“I had such a lovely time learning about the significance of henna, watching the catwalk and most of all, it was so heartwarming to meet so many inspiring women within the local community and witnessing how much Shama Women’s Centre means to the community. Certainly one of the best charity events I have ever attended – A big thank you and many congratulations to Yasmin Wong and all the Shama members involved for organising such a beautiful and successful event.” – Ivy

“I absolutely loved showcasing henna art at the event, it is an important part of many cultures and is used to help women feel good about themselves – decorating their bodies for self appreciation. I was honoured to have been part of fundraising for Shama and will definitely hold another stall in the future. It was lovely meeting those that work behind the scenes, as well as the other stall holders – all working together to better the lives in our communities.” – Zara (stall holder)

“What an absolutely brilliant event. The fashion show arranged by Shama Women’s Centre was a fun, organised, welcoming, informative along with the chance to pick up some lovely pieces for the wardrobe” – Satveer
