Rita, a 74-year-old Indian lady, who spoke little English, lived with her children in their family home, but felt very lonely and isolated as she didn’t have the financial means to get out. She met our Welfare Rights Officer at Belgrave elder’s luncheon club, who made her aware of her entitlements and made a successful application for her state pension. She now receives £203.85 each week and she has also had a back payment of over £3000. She is so grateful to Shama’s Welfare Right’s Advisor, as are many other women and families within our community
