Gambling Harms Support

We offer support to women/people from minority ethnic communities impacted by Gambling Harms through our Holistic Recovery Programme.

Our current projects

  1. Community Resilience Fund is supporting Shama’s Empowering Lives and Communities Programme which provides culturally conducive gambling harms service aimed at supporting Black Asian Minority Ethnic women and their families in Leicester and Leicestershire who may be affected by gambling harms. Support includes welfare advice, domestic abuse and counselling support.
  2. The Improving Outcomes Fund provides a formal referral pathway to Shama’s Holistic Recovery Programme to support predominantly women from minority ethnic communities who have alcohol and drug addictions or are affected by other’s gambling to our support services. We will work with our partners Turning Point and other organisations to ensure that women are referred to the right support.

We will work with organisations to help set up referral systems for those women suffering gambling harms.

Our offer includes

Culturally Conducive Training and Workshops:

  • Training for organisations/agencies: train the trainer workshops that meets the cultural and gender sensitivities of minority ethnic women/communities.
  • Workshops for community groups/ambassadors/clients: culturally conducive awareness workshop to raise awareness and reduce stigma around gambling harms.
  • Outreach support within the community.
  • Events: stalls raising awareness of gambling harms and the support available at events in the community.

Holistic Peer Support activities including:

  • Arts & crafts, baking, yoga, reflective work and more. We provide 1-1 and group peer support in a safe environment.
  • Referral pathways to our in-house support services and external specialist support based on client needs.
